I received a very warm welcome from Birta when I arrived at the resort.
The Accomodation was fab, ideal for the holiday. There was never a queue for the bathroom, facilities clean and tidy .
Great location , everything within walking distance to visit and explore .
Team dinners were a great shout, i was a solo traveller and quickly got to know people which was encouraged by the enthusiastic and friendly team .
I had lessons as I was a complete beginner , the classes were fab and instructors very patient and I learnt a lot in a short space of time .
One thing to note when eating out , lots of places are closed on Mondays , so good to book in advance .
But I had the best time , thank you to everyone at chill in Ericeira , ill def be back :)

I have to say it was a great holiday. Joana was brilliant. Everyone there is so nice, the surf house is lovely and clean, the staff is really helpful, the instructors are great. I have no complaints at all!
I was really taken with the town. It's very beautiful. The surrounding beaches are lovely and there is a great choice of restaurants.  All in all, a great experience for me.
I was worried I was too old to stay in a surf house anymore but there was a lovely group there last week. I really appreciate the upgrade to the twin room as well. I think if I was booking again I would probably book that instead of a larger shared room.

How did you like the accommodation?

All in all, I had a great holiday at the Chill-in House and look forward to returning there for another surfing holiday. All of the staff was genial and conversable. The accommodation is ideally situated on a quiet residential road, just a few minutes’ walk to the lively and attractive centre of Ericeira. My private room and the shared bathrooms were clean and in good condition.
Ericeira and the surrounding beaches are pleasant, and the town is thankfully not tourist tacky. The breakfast was simple but sufficient to start the day. The BBQs organised by the Chill-in House were excellent value and made for enjoyable evenings. The meat, fish and salads were delicious, and the BBQ area was conducive to socialising and mixing with the other 30-odd guests. The restaurant choices were on the whole good. However, one evening we travelled to the other side of town to eat at a pizzeria, commonplace in Europe, although there are plenty of decent and renowned eateries in Ericeira serving Portuguese food, which is, in my opinion, one of the merits of holidaying in Portugal.Incidentally, the restaurants in town where I ate served excellent fare at reasonable prices.

Yeah the house was absolutely fantastic. Joana and Edoardo were brilliant with all the guys who went and they retained a sense of humour while we were there. The town itself was beautiful. Plenty of outstanding restaurants and everything was super cheap. I know everyone in our group had a brilliant time and everyone I've spoken to would be stoked to go back

I had a private double room. It was very comfy, big enough, clean and beautifully decorated. Also loved the sea view of Course! The bathroom was shared with some other rooms which worked out well. Bathroom also was clean at all times. Staff as well as all people around were so lovely and relaxed. Loved the breakfast every morning around a big table with chilled music and enjoying the ocean view slowly waking up. Almost felt like family. Atmosphere overall was just super nice, welcoming and chilled. Houses and the whole place is cozy with great ocean view. Not far from the center of ericeira.

How were the surf lessons?

Instructors were very nice and looked after everyone.
The beaches were nice! Although have to deal with rocks a lot at Times.
Overall had a lot of fun in the water.
Took the beginner lessons. moSt of the lesson was learning by doing, having fun, only getting specific advice when you asked for it. Sad that there was no intermediate course. But that was due to the wave conditions. Things to improve specifically: Add warm up or stretching. Sometimes people got a bit lost what would happen next, so I guess it might be good to offer an overall info to new arrivers.

How did you like the accommodation?

I loved it!  My first time staying in a "surf house" but I would definitely go back.  The owners/staff were amazing.  The house had an amazing view and we decorated in fun colors.  The cleaning crew was there daily so the house always felt clean and neat.   I thought the town was fabulous!  It had everything I could have wanted or needed and it was just a short walk away.
The beaches were great, soom,e were sandy and some were a bit rocky (and that's a lil scary at times).  All of the restaurants were really good as well.  My only suggestion with the dining is to suggest less expensive restaurant options for those traveling on a budget 16 to 23 euros is a bit steep. Overall a great experience!

How were the surf lessons?

The surf lessons were good as well.  The first day I went out there were only 3 of us and that was prefect.  After that there were 13 and I think that was too much for the instructors to handle.  They then split us up separated by skill level which was much better.

Great place to stay. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. They have bbqs which are full of lovely, yummy food. They also organise group meals in the local restaurants. Chill in Ericeira is probably the best hostel I ever stayed in. it's beautifully designed and the staff is very cool, helpful and funny. after some days there I really felt like being part of a big new family! they also organize every evening dinner possibilities at different very good local restaurants or amazing BBQs at the hostel. over all I can only but recommend staying there!

How were the surf lessons?

The surf lessons were also very good. They divided the group every day in beginner and advanced so if they see you're improving you'll go with them to the outside the next day. there are two beaches you'll go to, depending on the tide and the wave situation, and they'll always choose the better one. in summer it's very packed in this area so you'll have to take care not only with the people from your group but also with the people from the other surf schools but I guess that's normal.

Chill in Hostel is an ideal place to stay. Bright, very clean, very comfy, and everything you need to hand. Great location, and quiet at night. Good showers and the owners really take pride in the place. Lovely breakfast but could they stretch their budget to a boiled egg in the morning. BBQ and Dinner in the hostel was the nicest food I tasted and really sociable.

The staff at the hostel were aware that I was solo and embraced me as one of their own. They were all absolutely amazing. Friendly and caring and included me in their high jinks and revelry. As a seasoned solo traveller, this means a lot. The week was too short and flew by as I was having so much fun.

Beautiful little town, Kept clean and neat, lovely local restaurants and good value for money. The local wines are gorgeous so I would stick with these if finances are tight. The local beer is very palatable and cheap and goes down well with a BBQ. Very busy in August in the centre of town but if you stay at the edge of town you can get just as nice food to eat. Very chilled place. It is a big destination for Portuguese families and overall very family orientated. However, there is an obvious presence of surf lovers. Local beaches are unspoilt but packed in high season. Surf beaches are amazing and the facilities are world class. I was'nt on holidays for the nightlife but enough bars to cater for your tastes. I like that they were small and friendly.

How were the surf lessons?

structors were great. Passionate about what they do. Beaches were amazing. Again because it was high season, too packed and classes were too large. I was more concerned about hitting someone on the head than surfing so it took the good out of it. There were quite a few unhappy about it and I know the instructors were peeved as well. The instructors looked after us so well and they are great fun and friendly I would come at a quiet time of year to get the real value out of them.

Had a great time and Ericeria was just as I remembered it. A beautiful fishing town with a vibrant feel. I really loved it. The hostel, Joana, Eduardo and Dani were amazing. I taught some Yoga classes out there for Joana which was good and added another element to the hostel. Dani's BBQ's were amazing highly recommended. Great holiday though definitely sad to go and yes, I do want to go back!

Miguel and his guys were amazing instructor and really nice. As they were older I really felt I could trust them and it was clear they were out there for us not just to do there own surfing! It gave me more confidence in the water. I do surf in the UK so I didn't need beginner's lessons but hints and tips on turning and over-coming my fear of big waves!! I didn't realise that you can do surfari's when you are there which was great as we got to surf and see more of the area.

The surf house was amazing, even better than the pictures. We all loved the town, very traditional and unspoilt, many places to eat and drink, pedra jura and la luna were our favourites, where we made friends with the staff. Beautiful location and all in all a great holiday, looks like we'll be heading back there next year!

Chill ericeria was in a fantastic location, cannot beat the view and still just a short walk to town. Accommodation was good, including facilities - kitchens, breakfast room, lounge etc. the spread at breakfast was a great way to start the day. As well as the amazing location and view the staff are fantastic. Super friendly and helpful, which really helps when you are travelling alone. Every day / night they put on events - meals out, bbq, bars etc. Really enjoyable and would highly recommend to anyone that's travelling alone.

How were the surf lessons?

Individually the surf instructors were great, but on some occasions the groups were probably too big with a high mix of abilities. Whilst there are several instructors I think they could do better at spliting the group into smaller ability groups. The Surf school were very good at making sure we got optimum surf conditions for the day - changing beaches and times where necessary, including flexibility on class length (unlike the other surf schools that were rigid to their slot).

How did you like the accommodation?

The accommodation was lovely, quite minimal but felt welcoming and colourful. Good spaces to spend time in alone and with a group, encouraging people to interact. The town is about 15mins walk with lots of restaurants, very meat and fish based but really good food. It's worth booking if you are a large group especially if eating between 830 and 10.

How were the surf lessons?

There was a variety of beaches depending on the conditions and levels both with rocks and sand. The instructors were lively and really helpful and happy to provide advice and tips. But at peak season the class size was very large with over 30 people to 4 instructors, all surfing in a big group, so it made getting advice hard and everyone was surfing on top of each other in the beginners lessons. So it lead to multiple collisions in part due to the people taking the lessons being beginners and not having the skill or know how of what to do.

How did you like the accommodation?

The surf house was great, I loved how colourful it was and it was very warm and welcoming. Bed rooms where great as well.
The fact that you couldn't cook in the surf house was less than ideal as we were on a tight budget and had to eat out every night. The restaurants in town were lovely and the food was great but a bit more expensive than we would of hoped for.
I understand that their had been a fire risk or something so we couldn't cook. I had a chat with other guest while we were there and it would of been great to club together and cook for one an other. I think it was just closed short term. The bbq was great though

How were the surf lessons?

I loved the surf lesson and the teachers were great. I would of liked to see other beaches as we went to the same one everyday but maybe that's because it was the only good one ( I don't know)
I didn't really know what I was allowed to do and not. I would of really liked to just go and try it on my own because when their was a big group of beginners there was a lot of waiting around.
I didn't hear till our last day that we were allowed to borrow a board and wetsuit and go try in at one of the local beaches. (that's a great idea but I didn't know if we were allowed to do that or not or if it cost money?) but that's good.

Absolutely loved our stay at Chill In, everything was clean and the atmosphere was so relaxed. Breakfast was prepared by the staff who sat at the table to make sure you had everything you needed. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, they organized multiple dinners so that people could get to know each other. We chatted to the owners on multiple occasions and they were some of the nicest people I’ve met.
Everything was so easy, lists were left upstairs for surfing lessons, yoga lessons and dinners and you simply signed your name and it was all organized for you!
The nights out were great particularly the dinner in Calavera was brilliant, food was delicious and margaritas were amazing and we were really well looked after.
The trip was a real escape, everything was so relaxed and easy, the hospitality was amazing I will 100% come back here.

It was exactly how it sounds- totally chilled! All the staff and other guests were so friendly and easy to get on with! We stayed 10 days which wasn't enough we definitely could have stayed longer. While we were there, there was 3 bbqs in the house which were so delicious- an abundance of homemade pastas and salads and bbqd meats and fish so something for everyone!
There was also organised dinner trips and nights out you could attend if you were up for it! Ericiera is a really cute old fishing town with cobbled streets with loads of little restaurants and bars at every turn! So much fresh fish and seafood and yummy cocktails!
There is a few lovely beaches to choose from all very close to the Chill In but there was one we really loved which was about a 20 minute scenic walk from the house so we made that trip a few times. The beach was called Foz Do Lizandro!
We would highly recommend the Chill In surf house! We were made feel so at home at all times!! Especially by all the cool staff!! Had a lot of fun times with Carlos, Juaquin and Timmy!! Thanks guys :)

How were the surf lessons?

We went out for a surf lesson everyday at different times depending on when the best surf was. The main beach we went to was Ribeira d'llhas, here we surfed on a reef. The instructors were so great! Really patient and gave everyone equal amount of their time! There was good waves for both beginners and intermediate surfers which was cool! Sometimes there were some other schools in the water at the same time so it got a bit hectic at time but the instructors always kept our group close and under control! We learnt so much from the instructors who have been surfing they're whole lives and felt totally safe at all times! They were all very cool and really determined to get everyone up on their boards! Couldn't recommend this school anymore!

Sometimes the groups were quite big in comparison to how many instructors there were but they did an amazing job at keeping an eye on everyone.

How did you like the accommodation?

The Accommodation was brilliant the staff were like family, the hospitality was sensation and they hosted 2 BBQ'over the 7 nights which were amazing the other night they Hostel founder and team hosted nights at the local restaurants and bars which had great food and tasty food.

The surf lessons were taught by 4-5 guys who were really and very much qualified for the job, my goals was to learn to paddle out and paddle into a wave and stand which I was able to do within the first couple of days.

By the 4th & 5th day I wanted to give the intermediate session a go so I did which was hard but the surf instructors helped me to get out there in some choppy open water and I caught a green wave on which I struggled once it broke close in and they surf instructor followed me in and made sure that I got on to the beach safe which for me at this point I was really happy about as I told him I didn't have the energy to get out again and he read the situation perfect the whole experience was great and I can't wait to get back out there!

Everything was seamless and I could not rate the Chillin in and surf lessons highly enough!

How were the surf lessons?

The surf lessons were really good from day 1-7 I always learning new stuff and having 4-5 instructors meant that I learnt different things off each person tips and guidance was really good. They were also really cool and super surfy so it felt very authentic and they was never bored as they kept it brief on the beach with the days breakdown of what to do on the water and once we were out there they would guide us on the things to do to make the surf session as good as possible! Just want to be out surfing again ASAP ??

Heaven on Earth,
the accommodation is in a great location and it has the most breathtaking view from the terrace, everything is very well maintained and organized.
the town is the lovely little town with everything you need there, I went on numerous walks just admiring the beauty of the place. if you stay in ChillIn you will have a help from one of the awesome event people working there, depending on the night they organize dinners in different places with different cuisine, sometimes they organize a barbeque on premises. the place has a great vibe, you can relax even if you as restless as a bee, also you will definitely meet someone in the surf house to party with if that what rocks your boat :)

How were the surf lessons?

The lessons were the bomb! I went on a couple of camps before, and I thought something completely different of how the approach suppose to be, based on my previous experience. The approach Jose, Joao, and Rodrigo have is pretty cool they all have their individual approach but they always with you at all times, it quite amazing and it seemed impossible at times as there was quite a few of us and everyone always felt as they pay a lot of individual attention to each one of us! I remember this feeling of safety... at one point when I panicked for a bit after being violently slapped by the wave and drunk a bit of water I just turned around and one of the instructors was there! in seconds! I don't even know where he came from...

Fantastic feeling.

I was taught theory by Jose who has a very calm, intelligent way of explaining basics, he breaks everything down and goes through it step by step. I enjoyed every bit of it, also he managed to provide me with some extra information on how waves work and form based on the sea situation at the time. I was asking a lot of questions and he always found the time to answer it. all of the instructors did.

the first board push I had was with Joao, at first I thought that it was interesting that we get a push...(it seemed too easy) but this is the best way to learn how to recognize-feel waves, and you can just focus on lifting your body up! after that, it was so much easier, I took my time learning and had so much fun while doing it, my ever favorite spot was: Ribeira D’ilhas
but all the beaches are stunning.

How did you like the accommodation?

I love the accommodation very much, it's super clean and very nicely decorated. Staff are very nice too, telling the crazy surf tales and monster waves they've seen. And the surf house organized evening group activities from time to time, which creates a really nice atmosphere.

I wasn't too much interested in visiting the town though, I was mainly focused on having surfing experiences.

How were the surf lessons?

I took one surf lesson. There were two instructors, one from our surfing house and one from the other, and they two combined the class together.

I liked one tutor but not the other. I felt one was rather cold with me, and did not provide any helpful advice. Luckily, the other was really nice and always gave me encouragement, helped me surf better, etc. So overall, I recommend!

The weather was really not in our favour, otherwise I believe the beaches were very nice!

How did you like the accommodation?

Accommodation was really brightly painted and very clean. It had a lovely friendly feel to the place and the views over the beach were stunning.

The town was a 10 min walk away which was fine for dining out at night. Staff took us to some fantastic restaurants where we ate exceptionally great food and drank lovely wine or Sangria - it varied from pizza, seafood, grilled meat or fish and sushi - which was the best I have ever tasted.

The weather (April) was very mixed and houses in Portugal don't appear to have heating so I would recommend taking a hot water bottle, depending on the time of year you are going, as it's small and light. They did put heaters in every room to address the unusual weather we had and a fire in the living room which was toasty.

Yes I tool surf lessons. 2 hrs each day.
Instructors were brilliant. They were very patient and gave really good advice and I made good progress because they gave instant feedback and tips to improve.

Some bikes to borrow in the surf house would have been handy, save the walk town to the shops and so on

The surf house was absolutely amazing. The interior was so nice, the bedrooms were really spacious and all the facilities were great. I really couldn't recommend it higher, Joanna and the team were all lovely. Really liked the beach as well.
Restaurants - Amazing, and so affordable. I was there for 10 days so went to a good variety of restaurants. Night life. This was a concern of ours as it was a small fishing village, but the night life was so much fun. We actually ended up going to the same bar The Jukebox every night of our stay, and didn't get bored!! The nightclub was great, I was pleasantly surprised.
It is a small village, but when you are staying in the surf house, it is all about the people you are staying with. One of the surfers working there, Luca organised a restaurant every evening to eat out, so it really gave everyone an opportunity to mix. I really love Ericeira and could not recommend the surf house any higher

How were the surf lessons?

We went to the same surf beach for all my surf lessons. The lessons were not a long as the lessons in Lagos, we would usually go for maybe a 2-3hour session, but I found the instructors were so much more thorough. They took an interest in every surfer, whatever their level and did their best to help everyone improve.

Was a fantastic holiday. The surf house had a great atmosphere and the staff were all very friendly. The rooms were all bright and colourful with fantastic views over the ocean.
It was quite a small town though it had a good selection of nice restaurants. There were not so many bars or clubs but there are certainly a few really good ones to be found. So all in all, can't wait to go back!

The lessons were brilliant as well, they organised people of different abilities into separate groups and took them to the best beach at the best time for their abilities. From talking to other guests it sounds like they have some of the best instructors around.

I don't normally give feedback but I will make an exception this time. Having worked in hospitality all my life, I am very picky and critical everywhere customer service is concerned. Well, let me tell you, I couldn't possibly praise the Chill In any higher. The surf house is very welcoming and superbly run by a wonderful team of young people who clearly know how to treat their guests. The location itself is gorgeous and the town very pretty and easily accessible. All in all, I had a fantastic time and I would recommend Ericeira and the Chill In to anyone.

How did you like the accommodation?

My week in Ericeira went really well. :) I would highly recommend 'Chill In Hostel'. Joana, Daniela, Marah and Edorado were extremely welcoming and friendly. I stayed in a house opposite the hostel and found it very comfortable and clean.
The hostel was only minutes from a small beach which was great for sunbathing and only 10 minutes from town centre. I thought the staff in the hostel went that extra mile in showing us a good time by bringing the group to a famous pastry factory one evening and then arranging a delicious BBQ and trip to a listen to a band on another.
Ericeira is a pretty little town and nice to wander around. There were lots of lovely restaurants and all really reasonably priced. I'm a vegetarian so my choices were a little more limited but that wasn't too much of a problem but if you like fish then it's the place to be!!
There were 2 other beaches in the town and each were lovely and clean. The town had lots of cute bars dotted around and for anyone who likes their gin then "Hemingways" is a must!
I used "A2B" for transfer from airport to Ericeira and I found them great. They were waiting at arrivals when I got in and picked me up on time for my return trip. They were very good value too as Ericeira was a 30 minutes or so from the airport

How were the surf lessons?

The surfing lessons were well organised. I didn't managed to surf much as I hurt my arm! Nothing serious, just pulled muscles I hadn't used before!! Lessons were held on different beaches during the week which was great as we got to see around the area a little more.

I have had a really good time in Ericeira. The surf house was nice, with its funny and colourful deco, its common and comfortable areas. The fact that it is and has the spirit/atmosphere of a house makes you feel home almost.
The staff are really friendly and ready to help and make your life easy. I like the fact that dinner are proposed to whomever want and that Ericeira is a small town with (at least it felt like it) one meeting point at the jukebox: perfect to meet people and have a chance to get to know them. Really good when you travel alone. All in all i loved it and had the chance to meet with great people.

Had an awesome holiday, Ericeira is definitely the best place to go for a surfing holiday in Europe. Didn't realise that the instructors were pretty much all Portuguese national champions which was a bonus, very good instructors.
The surf house was very friendly, there was a consistant effort for everyone to socialise so any single people there never felt lonely. They'd always organise meals out at night for those who wanted to go, a great way to get to know people.
Ericeira was quite a lively little place, plenty of nice restaurants good bars, very friendly atmosphere. There's enough there to keep you happy! There seemed to be an endless amount of beaches all of which were superb with great waves that suited all levels

I had a brilliant time. The highlight for me was the guests and staff at the surf house. I happened upon a great bunch of people. We are now 'lifelong friends'. The owners and staff are very hospitable, friendly and kind. The surf house itself was very comfortable and they looked after me very well even leaving me in a double room on my own when they could.
The location is great, a ten minute walk to the town centre.
I loved Ericeira which was really authentic and safe to just wander around with my camera. The whole experience was extremely relaxing. I would highly recommend it but I would say it is a sports holiday and if you want to lie on a beach then do that but surfing is hard work and you should take to opportunity to hone your skills.  I'll definitely spread the word or maybe I'll keep it for myself. I'd love to go back but will practice my pop up before I do

Season

Best time to go depends on your level above. July, August & September are the peak tourist months.

This is where you surf Europe's best coast line and let the fun begin. There are over 12 surf breaks along the Ericeira coast, with different options for all standards. With so much choice you'll feel like a kid in a sweet shop! The area was introduced in the Stormriders Surf Guide to Europe with the heading "Enter the Heartland".

World Surf Reserve
In 2011 it was awarded the title of 'World Surf Reserve', there are only 2 other places in the world that share the title: Santa Cruz, US and Manly, Australia.

If it is your first surfing holiday to Ericeira then head straight to Foz do Lizandro and Sao Juliao beaches south of town, they are perfect beginner and intermediate surf spots. Closer to town is Praia do Sul. Another great beginner beach breaks. All best at mid tide but surfable at high and low tide also.

For Intermediates you have the reliable and safe reef break Ribeira d'Ilhas, which host the WSL World qualifying series surf championships every year. And for the more adventurous you have the world class Coxos. That's just naming a few, there are too many surf breaks to mention here!

Don't forget to explore further up the coast - 25 minutes away is Santa Cruz and an hour away is Peniche, home to the World renowned Supertubos and host of the Rip Curl Pro since 2009. 30 minutes south of Lisbon is the Cascais coast with the famous Praia do Guincho surf beach. And when north winds are blowing you can venture further south towards Carcevelos beach and the other surf spots along the Lisbon coast.
