According to Federico Pilurzu, 2006 Central American Surf Champion and ASP Member, “Marbella is the most consistent beach break in the North Pacific Coast ”.
"Marbella offers two incredible options for surfers: Playa Frijolar and Playa Coco not crowded as most of the other spots.
Playa Frijolar is a left hand point break, featuring great waves ideal for beginners and fun for experienced surfers as well.
Playa Coco is a beach break featuring peaking A frame waves and incredible barrels. This area is great for all levels of surfing, and when big… it is excellent for the more experienced surfer" (quote Global Surfers, Surfing Waves).
Furthermore nearby Marbella there are many secret spots and at the same time some others top surf spots of Golden Coast like Ostional, Junquillal, Playa Negra and Playa Avellanas.
Marbella is situated in a good position to see all surf spots and to enjoy all the area between Tamarindo and Samara. Tamarindo is 40 min. drive, Nosara is 45 minutes drive and Samara is 2 hours drive.
Adriana, her husband Matteo and little Alice their daughter are happy to welcome you in Casa Alice Surf Lodge a 3 story, 4,520 sq. feet villa with private or shared rooms for guests for every budget. This is the closest lodge to the beach in town.
The villa is surrounded by greenery and populated by nice howler monkeys at the sunrise/sunset. Spring drinkable water which saves you a lot of money.
The villa is beautifully furnished in typical style guanacasteco enriched ceilings, doors and furniture from local wood. It's cozy and clean enough to be perfect for families with children and for single travelers. Surfers or not is good for everybody who likes authentic and pure beauty and nature far away from crowded dirty beaches. WIFI and air conditioned.

Casa linda, limpa e aconchegante, os donos são muito simpáticos e de bom grado, Italianos fazem uma pizza maravilhosa... Gostei muito, poderia morar ali.
I stayed for 5 days at Adrianas an Matteos place and I would definitely recommend it. Marbella is a really small and quite town, Costa Rica style. Its not as touristic as some other towns. So you have some good waves (for intermediate) to share with just some other surfers. One of the breaks is just easy 10 minutes walk from the house. You can rent Boards from Matteo and he also took me out to some other spots. We also watched the biggest „group“ of turtles nestling on a beach. The house is very comfortable with much space and you have everything you need. If you like too, Adriana an Matteo prepare food for you (try Matteos Pasta!). They are really friendly and easy to handle. They will take care that you enjoy your stay. The locals a really friendly and chilled too. So for all that ones who like to have a more costa rican experience, like it more quiet and lay back, check it out. We left some Waves for you.
We provide Airport Transfers from and to Liberia and they can be booked in the booking steps.

The norther Pacific side of Costa Rica is best know for its fun waves rather than epic 10 foot advanced surf!
Air temperature in the north is the same year round 32°C. The seasons are divided in two: dry Season from December to April and wet season from May to November. Dry season is the busiest time for tourism in Costa Rica and they call it their summer.
Tamarindo is a year round surf destinations. The bigger swell season is from April to October. From December to March you tend to get smaller but clean 4 foot waves and is probably the best time to go. Wind is not usually a big factor but as with most places the morning will be best for glassy offshore conditions.
Surf beaches around Tamarindo
The main surf beach in the area is Playa Grande, a very consistent long beautiful beach break for intermediates. La Casita across the estuary is a fast beach break. El Estero is the fast rivermouth, great for longboarder surfers.
Surfing Tamarindo beach itself is great for all levels with Pico Pequeno & Pico Grande for more advanced. Further south is Playa Langosta, rocky underneath the surface and offering fun waves. Playa Avellanas is the most stunning beach in the area and suits all standards. One of Costa Roca's best. Playa Negra further south is an excellent right hand reef break over crystal clear water.
That's just a few of the many ideal surf breaks you can experience when on a surfing vacation in Tamarindo. Come Surf with us...
