Avellanas is a surfer’s paradise. The white beach in front of our camp is surrounded by mangrove forests and is home to 5 surf breaks that can be surfed at all tides and offer waves for all levels. Not only we have spots that suit all abilities but water is about 27 degrees Celsius year round making a wetsuit obsolete during the whole year. And since there are no crowds on our beach, you can enjoy brakes between surf sessions resting peacefully under a palm trees.
No matter if you have stood on a board once or twice before, you plan all your travels around surfing the world, or you want to experience the feeling of riding a wave for the first time, our local surf guides know every break and will take you to the one that suits your level and offers perfect conditions for that day. They’ll show you how to successfully pop on the board, how to progress from whitewater to green waves and how to enhance your existing skills, taking you from riding to ripping. Of course, we have boards of all shapes, sizes, and abilities you can rent at our school.
Tropical sun, white sand beaches, turquoise water, perfect waves, lots of space and few people – Playa Avellanas, probably the best surf spot on Costa Rica’s Pacific Coast, is waiting for you.
At Rapture Surfcamp Costa Rica you live in a private residence in the middle of the jungle close to a beach that offers not one or two, but five surf spots. The camp is located just 20-minutes driving from Tamarindo, Costa Rica‘s party epicenter, yet the location is secluded and walking distance to a pristine white sand beach. It consists of a big, modern house with a common area, a bar and a terrace which leads to a tropical garden.
The rooms have big windows, air conditioning and mosquito nets. You can relax in the common area post surfing or get a cool beer at our fully-stocked bar. In the garden you can lay in a hammock keeping company to some sloth or show the monkeys and iguanas what’s possible on a slack line.

Surf Guide
The norther Pacific side of Costa Rica is best know for its fun waves rather than epic 10 foot advanced surf!
Air temperature in the north is the same year round 32°C. The seasons are divided in two: dry Season from December to April and wet season from May to November. Dry season is the busiest time for tourism in Costa Rica and they call it their summer.
Tamarindo is a year round surf destinations. The bigger swell season is from April to October. From December to March you tend to get smaller but clean 4 foot waves and is probably the best time to go. Wind is not usually a big factor but as with most places the morning will be best for glassy offshore conditions.
Surf beaches around Tamarindo
The main surf beach in the area is Playa Grande, a very consistent long beautiful beach break for intermediates. La Casita across the estuary is a fast beach break. El Estero is the fast rivermouth, great for longboarder surfers.
Surfing Tamarindo beach itself is great for all levels with Pico Pequeno & Pico Grande for more advanced. Further south is Playa Langosta, rocky underneath the surface and offering fun waves. Playa Avellanas is the most stunning beach in the area and suits all standards. One of Costa Roca's best. Playa Negra further south is an excellent right hand reef break over crystal clear water.
That's just a few of the many ideal surf breaks you can experience when on a surfing vacation in Tamarindo. Come Surf with us...
