For the traveler hungry for the trip of a lifetime, this location has it all. Beautiful beaches and biodiversity share the town with cafes, amazing restaurants, boutiques, and a thriving nightlife. As for daily activities, you won’t have time to do them all: surfing, water sports, fishing, horseback riding, scuba diving, and snorkeling are just a few of the options.
The long, beautiful beach in the centre of the bay is great for learning how to surf, and there are more intermediate and advanced breaks close by. The breaks in the area are some of the best in Costa Rica, as evidenced by the several international surfing competitions held here every year.

Only a few minutes' walk from Selina, drink, and dance late into the night at fancy cocktail bars, tropical beach bars, and bustling nightclubs.

Staff are welcoming, friendly and willing to help with anything.
The design of this hostel is pretty unique. They also had events such as sunset yoga and surf lessons available throughout the week, which made our time there even more enjoyable. Thanks to Juliana, Martin and Marzo Hangten not only helping us around the hostel, but becoming our lifelong friends.

Tamarindo
Level: Beginner
Perfect spot that works better during mid or high tide.
It´s at the northern part of Tamarindo beach.
El Estero
Level: Advanced
Near to the river, at the right of the main beach break, you can find this spot recommended for intermediate and advanced surfers.
Best time to enjoy mid and low tide, during high tide rip current can be strongeand the waves really faster.
Langosta
Level: Intermediate
A lot of peaks working better in mid/high tide. You can enjoy surfing in both directions here!
Intermediate and advenced surfers are more than welcome in Langosta, you can find a fast right wave and a slower wave at the left. Racetrak peak "offers" you some rocks, be carefull, they are not dangerous but they should not be ignored.
The norther Pacific side of Costa Rica is best know for its fun waves rather than epic 10 foot advanced surf!
Air temperature in the north is the same year round 32°C. The seasons are divided in two: dry Season from December to April and wet season from May to November. Dry season is the busiest time for tourism in Costa Rica and they call it their summer.
Tamarindo is a year round surf destinations. The bigger swell season is from April to October. From December to March you tend to get smaller but clean 4 foot waves and is probably the best time to go. Wind is not usually a big factor but as with most places the morning will be best for glassy offshore conditions.
Surf beaches around Tamarindo
The main surf beach in the area is Playa Grande, a very consistent long beautiful beach break for intermediates. La Casita across the estuary is a fast beach break. El Estero is the fast rivermouth, great for longboarder surfers.
Surfing Tamarindo beach itself is great for all levels with Pico Pequeno & Pico Grande for more advanced. Further south is Playa Langosta, rocky underneath the surface and offering fun waves. Playa Avellanas is the most stunning beach in the area and suits all standards. One of Costa Roca's best. Playa Negra further south is an excellent right hand reef break over crystal clear water.
That's just a few of the many ideal surf breaks you can experience when on a surfing vacation in Tamarindo. Come Surf with us...
