Ris Surf School
About
Ris Surf School was founded in the summer of 2002 and is based on the seafront of Ris, in Noja (Cantabria). The idea came from a group of surfers and friends with a sole purpose of promoting surfing and encouraging this way of life among all age people. Today, with more than 10 years teaching experience, we have the everlasting motivation but also qualified instructors and high quality equipment.

- Due to changing tides exact surf lesson start times are not decided until the week of your lesson.
- After you book we will contact you the week of your lesson to tell you your lessons start time.
Kids Surf
We offer lessons for kids aged 6-12. Each lesson is up to 2 hours per day and include Surfboard & Wetsuits. We ask that parents are close by. We pick you up from school and take you to the beach. Safety and fun are our main priorities.
Beginner Surf
Our lessons are 2 hours per day and include Surfboard & wetsuit. Student ratio is 1:6 The beginner´s lessons are taught in waist deep water. You will learn everything from standing techniques to turning and finally padding outside and learning how to cath `green´ (un broken) waves. Kids lessons are avaible at this level.
Intermediate Surf
Our lessons are 2 hours per day and include Surfboard & wetsuit. We have 1 instructor for 8 students. You will learn how waves formed,how weather conditions create the surf and riding the waves on the first day.
Advanced Surf
Our lessons are 2 hours per day and include Surfboard & wetsuit. We pick you up from your accommodation and take you to the beach. We have 1 instructor for 6 students. You will learn how waves formed, how weather conditions create the surf and riding the waves on the first day. We film you so you can see your mistakes and after we help you to correct them to improve your surfing.
Private Surf
Our lessons are 2 hours per day and include Surfboard & wetsuit. We pick you up from your accommodation and take you to the beach.

Noja's clear blue ocean offers endless surfing possibilities – the area stretching from Santander to Bilbao has an incredible supply of surf breaks: from protected beaches and coves to those directly exposed to the rolling waves of the Cantabrean Sea.
Noja's main surf beach is Ris. It is a beachbreak that is perfect for beginners and for intermediates. It is very sheltered from the wind. The surrounds are very picturesque with a tiny island that can be reached on foot at low tide.
Ajo, 5 minutes drive from Ris, has two beaches that are very consistent beach break and great for beginners. They are usually very good to surf when most other places are small.
El Brusco is the town's famous break – at 1-2 metres it's perfect for intermediate and when it gets bigger it becomes an excellent hollow beachbreak. Beside El Brusco is Berria – a beautiful long beach with a magnificent green hill at either end. Ideal for beginners and intermediate and often less crowded.
They are just the beaches in Noja – explore to the west and east and you will find incredible surf in Sopelana, the famous tow in big wave at Santa Marina, and also Laredo, Menakoz and Spain's most famous wave, the World Class wave Mundaka.

- To cancel go to the MyAccount section and log in or register and you can cancel from within your account.
- Your deposit is non refundable but can be used for the same property/surf school within one year of your original booking.
What happens if the surf school cancel the Surf Lessons?
In the rare occasion that conditions do not allow for the surf lesson to go ahead you will be given a full refund.

How were the surf lessons?
Pretty good, we were always in a small group with all the 'English' speakers. Good quality beginners boards. Surf area of the beach was very busy at times and I did worry about collisions on a few occasions.
Very good; both of our kids enjoyed them and made some friends through them. The coastline in the region is fantastic, the area is tremendously interesting and varied.
The surf school is absolutely wonderful. They took our 3 kids separate at first in order to make sure they understood everything as most children were Spanish. My kids got the hang of it after two days and then they joined in with the big group. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff, but also a very busy school. (which shows they are obviously doing a good job) Noja beach is beautiful and good for beginner surfers. There was one day they could not surf because the waves were too high and the weather on that day was not too good, but that can happen anywhere.
Ris surf school was great. Good kit, good teaching. Though quite big classes. The real highlight was the stunning beach. It was truly lovely.
The kids enjoyed the surflessons. We were pleased to see that they were instructed by Raoul in a small english talking group of just three or four people. We sure would recommend your surfschool.
The girls had good surfing, very accommodating and we rented boards and wetsuits from them also. We love the area & Ris beach
Surf lessons – good fun but small but that is no one’s fault – instructors were very good and we enjoyed the whole package. Beaches – excellent – really impressive – very clean and well looked after, water clear and warm (Ris is a blue flag beach which I didn’t know) -would definitely recommend
We had a brilliant time surfing Noja with the gang at ESR. Muy Bueno!!!!!! What fun guys working there and Raul was very kind to us with his english. We loved the spectacular coast lines and beaches.
The surf was good, really enjoyed our lessons with Raul. The beaches were some of the best beaches I have seen, fantastic!
Excellent surf school with friendly staff and instructors, well organised lessons and an excellent spot for surfers of varying standards
The surfing was brilliant. The beach was perfect for beginners. Some days the waves were difficult because of the weather-one day it was even cancelled because of the storms. However, the instruction was highly professional and fun, and allowed us to surf to our capabilities. I loved it so much I bought a board when I got home.
Noja is definitely a great spot, especially for beginners and intermediates like we were. We were very lucky with the weather and the surf conditions. During the first week we took lessons with Raoul in English. I think he did a very good job and the lessons were well balanced between warm-up, some theory and surfing. In the second week we rented a board and went in the water by ourselves. Raoul and the team from the surf school were very accomodating and offered us good prices for rental. They also sold us second-hand wetsuits for a very good deal.
Our boys loved the surfing and the lessons at the surf school were excellent - thanks to Raoul , the guy who ran the place and their main english speaking instructor.
The lessons were great – Raoul the English speaking instructor was brilliant and made the kids feel instantly at ease.
